The Monday Poll 12/03/12

Mood:
Feeling good. Had a few days off work and I needed it. However I don't want to go back tomorrow haha.

What’s your idea of a perfect Sunday?
Lazing about, maybe going to the cinema, or pub lunch. Even a bit of shopping. Then coming home to have a big home cooked meal and pampering myself with a face mask. Followed by some ice cream and a chick flick. Can you tell I like to eat.

Would you care to dance?
Why yes :)

If you were the star of your own reality TV show, what would the show be called?
Haha I don't know!

Heels or sneakers?
Really I'm a flats girl so flats or sneakers/trainers whatever you call them during the day and Heels for something formal or going out at night.

Favorite shower tune?
Take That - Greatest Day. Dunno why. It just is. It is always stuck in my head!

Would you rather spend a quiet night at home or an exciting night on the town?
I like both, just depends who you are with really :)

Do you smile at strangers?
Yeah, Scottish people are really friendly and we smile at everyone haha. Creeps.

Something you’d like to do today?
Well it's almost 11pm so I think I've done everything!

Weekly goals:
To sort out my wardrobe and continue with my coursework for work!

New hair :)

So this morning I made a long overdue trip to the hairdressers. My hair was in dire need of a cut and colour. It had been 6 months since I last been to the hairdressers (shocking, right?) and with a rare Saturday off work, I sacrificed the opportunity of a lie in and headed to the salon.
Here is what my hair looked like before...

My side fringe had completely grown out, my layers were long and limp and the colour/gloss had completely faded. Two hours later and emerged from the salon feeling fresh and much more happier with my hair...

I got my colour (warm mahogany) put through again and my layers tidied up and just a trim off the ends as I like it long right now.

All in all I'm really pleased with it! I think it makes me look younger.

Sparkles and Lipgloss no more?

This is a situation that I'd love to hear back from all of you and would greatly love your thoughts and opinions on this.

I'm not deleting the blog... I may not blog as often as others, and my blog may not be read by a lot of people compared to others, and that's ok with me. I love my little blog and everyone who takes the time to read what I have to say about beauty, fashion and life in general.

I have been blogging for almost three years now, (my blog was born in April 2009), and it was mainly used as an outlet for me to escape to, to cope with my Gran's illness, and the loss of her, my illness scare and also the stress of university. I never thought I would still be blogging three years later. Ok so I'm not posting every day, I can't do that. I run out of things to post about. I struggled with it during 'Blogmas' but it was fun. I will try to post more, but I can't promise x amount of posts per week.

Nobody, apart from those of you who read my blog, know about it. I'm not embarrassed about it, or the blogging community, not a lot of people would understand why I do it. Including my family. Although they support everything I do, I don't see them understanding why I blog. Some people blog for the free products/money, yes I said it, and it does happen. If that is what people want to do then good for them, and I support you, at making a bit of money at something (I would think) that they enjoy. I don't. I don't get sent free products, nor do I get paid, so everything I blog about I have purchased myself, and to me that is fine too. Everyone blogs for their own reasons, and for me, I do it for the enjoyment of sharing my opinions and exciting news, and if people want to read it, that's great and I really do appreciate your comments and support.

Basically, the gist of this post is I am having a dilemma about the blog. 'Sparkles and Lipgloss' was created when I was 19, and in my second year of university. I LOVED cosmetics then, and I still do, I think that there is more to me than just makeup. Let's face it, there are so many other makeup blogs out there that are absolutely fantastic and you know that they are the blogs to read. I still want to keep the beauty aspect to my blog, as that was the reason why I started this experience. I thought long and hard about starting this blog, over a year actually, and when it came to it, I was stuck on a name. I thought I love sparkles and sequins and all things glittery, and I love lipgloss, so why not combine both? And thus 'Sparkles and Lipgloss' went live on Thursday 23rd April 2009.

However, as I have got older, I feel that 'Sparkles and Lipgloss' is not me anymore. I'll be 23 this year, and to me if I was to say I had a blog, and it was called 'Sparkles and Lipgloss' I would feel embarrassed, not because of my blog content, because if I was embarrassed about what I blogged about, I wouldn't do it at all. I would be embarrassed about the name. To me it seems juvenile now. It's cute but, it's not me. I don't even like lipgloss anymore lol!

So my question to you, as a reader, what are your thoughts on this? I tweeted about this earlier and Victoria of lilyandlola suggested that I keep the 'Sparkles' and add something to it instead of 'Lipgloss'. What do you think? Or completely change it? I want something sleek, more my age and doesn't limit what I can post about really. More of a life blog than a lipgloss one :)

Also I plan on changing my layout (again, I know) but I don't really know where to begin. I was thinking about changing to a .com address so I could build it up the way I want to, but I wanted to hear what you all thought about it before I did anything drastic.

I really would appreciate your thoughts and opinions on this, so please leave a comment. I wouldn't beg for comments but I want to hear what you think, and be as brutally honest as you wish! I can take it :)

Thanks for your time

Help!

Ladies I require a bit of help from you. The other day whilst I was plucking my eyebrows I noticed that the front of them was a bit sparse.

You see back in the day when I was 15 I got tweezer happy and made my brows all one thickness. Really they were thin. I only did this once yet at 22 the hair hasn't grown back fully. I never touch the front of my brows when I pluck them.

Really I need something to help them grow back so they look better, as filling them in in that area looks really false, and that's not a look I want.

So I plead with you all, do you have any tips or recommendations? I would be extremely grateful if you left me them.

Thank you,

Heather & her eyebrows. x

Shopping My Stash!

I have done this quite a lot when I was a student, as money only stretches so far and travel costs are not cheap anymore. Basically what I do is I take an empty cosmetic/toiletry bag and fill it with products from my collection that are not as loved as some others. Then I challenge myself to use only these products to try and use them up, and in return, I rediscover some old gems and can then remove the ones I do not like. It also allows me to stop myself from making the mistake of repurchasing these products.

This time, I have also included products that are nearly finished, that way I can use them up, thus another Project 10 Pan is complete. I have been blogging now for nearly three years and over the three years I have used up 50 products thanks to P10P

I want to buy new products, I am itching to hit the beauty counters like I used to but I am reluctant to a) spend and obscene amount of money in one go these days, b) need the money for other important things and c) want to use up a lot before I buy what I want so I can justify spending that amount of money.

Here are the products that I have selected this time:

The products I have selected are:
BeneFit Sugarbomb, Dior Amber Diamond, MAC Porcelain Pink MSF, Diorshow Extase Mascara, Nars Sheer Glow and Matte Glow, Bourjois Healthy Mix, Bourjois Chocolate bronzer, Laura Mercier Foundation Primer, MAC Bare Study Paint pot, Laura Mercier Undercover Pot, MUA Heaven & Earth palette, 17 Beehive lipstick, MAC Icescape lipglass, Boujois lipgloss no 34, MAC Baby Sparks dazzleglass, Dior Lipglow, Clinique Brilush on cream liner (02 true black), Korres Jasmine lip butter and Rimmel eyebrow pencil in dark brown.

I have noticed that Gemma (Gemsmaquillage) does a similar post called Makeup Mixup and that inspired me to redo this again. I have had great sucess with previous attempts so hopefully this one will be just as good. So thank you Gemma, though I doubt you read my blog so you won't see this, for encouraging me to dive back into my collection and see what I have. Sometimes when doing my makeup, it is like I have blinkers on, same foundation, blush, eyeshadows, lipstick, so this is a great idea if you want to branch out into other products, finishes, textures and really discover what works for you so that when you go beauty shopping in future, you don't make further mistakes. I'm not saying I am perfect at it, but I certainly know that there are some colours that just don't suit my skin tone. Woodwinked eyeshadow I am looking at you.

Have you ever done a project like this or P10P? How did you find it? I find it can be tough, especially if new products are being released, but when I complete it, I feel great.

January Favourites!

I have tried to upload this post for a few days now and my photos were failing :( So I am sorry for the Google Images instead of my own photos. I don't have many favourites this month, just a few products that have stood out to me this month.
Face: Jemma Kidd Light As Air Foundation

If I have been wearing foundation the past month, it has been this. It has great coverage, yet looks natural. It's not matte, yet I wouldn't say it was overly glowy. It just makes you look healthy and radiant.

Cheeks: Clinique Blushing Blush in Precious Posy

This adds a bit of colour to my alabaster skin, giving it a bit of life and making me look more awake in the harsh winter light. It reminds me of MAC's Springsheen, considering that they are brands owned by Estee Lauder, it doesn't surprise me that they are similar.

Eyes: L'Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara

I LOVE a waterproof mascara. For me mascaras have to be waterproof or 9/10 I won't buy it. This makes my already long lashes super long but although it is essentially a lengthening mascara, it does give slight volume, that is work appropriate without being OTT :)

Lips: Blistex Intensive Mosituriser Lipbalm

Living in Scotland means you are subject to terrible weather conditions all the time. High winds, rain, hailstones and snow are normal, and that's just the summertime (lol, jk, it's not that bad...in the summer), but considering I have lived here all my life and I am used to the horrible winters, my skin isn't. This really helps to condition the lips keeping the moisture in, especially in conjuction with another Blistex product (I will do a seperate post on that), it has helped tremendously in restoring the moisture levels in my lips.

Hair: VO5 Miracle Concentrate Hair Oil

I am new to using hair oil as I have oily hair, I didn't get the fuss in putting oil into my hair, in thus speeding up the oily process. However, I use a few drops of this when I am fresh out of the shower (well about 8, I have long hair) and run it through my hair generally from where my hair sits at my chin to the ends, and then once it is completely styled, I add 2 more drops of this just to the ends to finish it. It is a lovely product and I have noticed that my hair is in great condition and feels great too. Plus it is about £5 so it won't break the bank.

Fragrance: Chanel Coco EDP

I normally wear Coco Madamemoiselle, but I got this for Christmas and didn't have the heart to tell my parents that they spent an obscene amount on perfume that I don't actually wear. So I have been wearing this since Christmas and I have to say I love it. All you need is 2 sprays, and it lasts all days. I am not very good at describing scents but it is more mature compared to the Coco Madamemoiselle, and a very sophisticated scent. The bottle is faboulous and although it isn't what I asked for (I hate asking for presents! I feel so bad asking for something!) I really do love it and have had a lot of lovely compliments about it :)

Random non-beauty favourite: Drake - Take Care

This has been on repeat since it came out in November. I love hip-hop, rap and R&B, and I have been a huge fan of Drake since he first came out. Even before he was signed to Young Money, I have been a fan. I remember being in Canada when I was younger and watching 'Degrassi - The Next Generation' (like 90210, but in Canada), and he was in it as Jimmy Brooks (later Wheelchair Jimmy). Anyway, this album is fantastic, as was his first, and right now is the soundtrack to my life. I cannot wait to go and see him live in April :)

What are your favourites this month?

New Job!

I would really like to apologise on the lack of posts the past few weeks, I haven't been keeping to good the past few weeks, and then this week I started a new job! Woohoo! Well really it is a promotion. I still work in the same place, just a new job role :) It's exciting, I had been acting up in this job title for nearly two years so for it to finally be recognised that I am capable of carrying out the job and coping with it, I got offered it last week. So between regular visits to the doctors and working, it has been a bit busy for me.

I do have my January favourites to post, and I was thinking of doing a makeup collection post. They will be up soon.
